A teenager is suing the City of Independence and officers with the Independence Police Department after one officer used a Taser on him during a traffic stop.

Officer Timothy Runnels used a Taser on Bryce Masters, who was 17 years old at the time, in 2014. Masters then went into cardiac arrest and eventually fell into a coma.

In the lawsuit, he said he suffers from brain damage, post-traumatic stress disorder and insomnia after the incident.

Masters is suing the City of Independence, the Independence police chief and Runnels. Taser International and its CEO are also named in the suit.

Runnels was removed from the force and sentenced to four years in prison.
