Highway Patrol issued Amber Alert for two kids in Independence, were sleeping in mom's stolen car

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - Two children are safe Sunday morning after Independence police said a suspect stole their mother's car and the Missouri State Highway Patrol issued an Amber Alert.

Police said they received a 911 call early Sunday morning when the woman was checking into America's Best Value Inn at 13710 East 42nd Street Terrace. The woman had left her keys in the car while checking into the motel.

Approximately 45 minutes after the vehicle was stolen, the Kansas City Police Department alerted Independence Police the vehicle had been located near Truman Road and Interstate 435. The two children were asleep, unharmed and were quickly reunited with their mother.
