Kansas City Council approves plan to condemn homes for East Patrol

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - More than 60 homes on Kansas City's east side will soon be demolished.

City council members voted on Thursday to condemn the homes between 26th and 27th Street from Prospect and Brooklyn.

The 17 acres of land will be home to the new East Patrol Police Station and crime lab.

The city has been working the past few months to take ownership of the land.

Two weeks ago, Councilman Jermaine Reed asked for a continuance so the council and homeowners could work out the possible issues.

Many homeowners have already moved. Others said they were holding out for the value of their home, which they said the city would have never given them.
