Caretakers at Monkey Island take in a baby gibbon ape

LEE'S SUMMIT, Missouri - The caretakers at Monkey Island have a new addition to their family.

Operator Dana Savorelli has taken in a 1-week-old gibbon ape whose mother rejected him. He was born on July 14.

For the baby's safety, operators had to tranquilize the mother and care for the baby personally.

They rotate hand-feeding the one-pound primate every three hours.

As of Friday, they haven't given the gibbon a name.
