Police, investigators working to recover body of man trapped inside Lee's Summit trench

LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. - Friends and family gathered on Friday morning at the site of a trench collapse that took a man's life in Lee's Summit Thursday.

Crews worked all through the night and into the morning to recover the body of a man trapped inside. The body has still not been recovered.

On Friday morning, Lee's Summit Sgt. Chris Depue confirmed the victim was 49-year-old Brian D. Allen of Windsor, Mo.

Allen worked as plumber

The call came in to police around 1:45 p.m. Thursday at a residential construction site.

The two-man crew was working to connect a sewer line from a house to the city's sewer line. A neighbor who was outside when the trench collapsed said emergency crews arrived within minutes.

Police said the trench is about 75 feet long and up to 15 feet deep.
