LIBERTY, Mo. - While the weather might have been picture-perfect on Saturday, it didn’t stop volunteers from searching for tornado victims.
It was all part of a Mass Casualty Exercise held by Liberty’s Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT. The idea is to simulate a disaster-type situation in order to for team members to learn how to help in an emergency.
The Search and Rescue team walked and used RVs to search the 6-mile-long industrial park.
Most of the volunteers at Saturday’s event have full time jobs, but say this is their way of giving back to the community. “I’m not a professional fireman, but I’ve taken the time to do the extra training to help out where needed if there is a problem in the community,” said CERT member Gordon Kwan.
Similar simulations have been held at all Liberty schools and nursing homes.
