Planet Aid to give coats to the homeless

HARRISONVILLE, Mo. - Planet Aid is hoping to help hundreds of people who are homeless stay warm this winter. The group is giving away coats in Cass County. People can get them at City Union Mission in Kansas City beginning at 1 p.m.

"There are people in need that don't have the excess that some of us do, just sharing and helping out those who need it and it's life changing when they receive that kind of stuff," operations manager Jeff Thompson said.

Planet Aid made similar donations at area homeless shelters earlier this month. People received jackets and sleeping bags.

In November, Planet Aid said it handed out 12,000 pounds of warm clothes in just a few hours.

"It's life changing," Thompson said. "When you get to be a part of that, it's neat to see how well received it all is.  People are so thankful to get some of the things we deliver to them. It's life changing for them and it's life changing for us."

Planet Aid has hundreds of donation bins in the area. You may donate coats and blankets, as well as clothes and shoes.
