PARKVILLE, Mo. - A man was killed in Parkvile early Tuesday morning when his vehicle was struck by another driver on the side of the road.
The Missouri Highway Patrol said the man, identified as 64-year-old Donald G. Rippy, was parked on the side of the road on 152 Highway at I-435 around 10 p.m. Monday to help his grandson, whose car had broken down.
They were both inside Rippy's car when a GMC Yukon, traveling westbound, veered off the roadway and struck his car, killing him and injuring his grandson. His grandson has minor injuries.
The driver of the Yukon, identified as Anthony Battaglia, was not injured.
Troopers have not yet determined how fast Battaglia was driving, but say the speed limit in the area is 65 miles per hour. He could face multiple charges including possession of a controlled substance and driving under the influence. He is currently being held at the Platte County Detention Center.
