PLATTE COUNTY, Mo. - Alcohol may have been a "contributing factor" in a crash that killed a woman Tuesday morning in Platte County, according to Platte County sheriff's officials.
Adam Shaw was driving a 2013 Freightliner semi-truck, officials said, when he crossed the center line into southbound traffic on 45 Highway near the intersection of River Road south of Farley, Mo. Shaw crashed into two vehicles, including one driven by Catherine Nienaber. She was killed in the wreck.
Nienaber's 7-year-old son was seriously injured in the crash, officials said, along with another man driving a second vehicle.
Shaw has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and two counts of assault, according to the news release. He is currently being held at the Platte County Detention Center on a $250,000 cash bond.
The wreck occurred around 8 a.m., forcing responders to close the highway between Jones-Meyer Road and Interstate 435. Sheriffs officials stated the road should be reopened this evening.
