(NBC News) - A Soyuz capsule carrying a crew of three and a Sochi 2014 Olympic torch docked with the International Space Station Thursday.
NASA TV provided video of the event, and NASA's Rick Mastracchio is among the crew members for ISS Expedition 38.
For safety reasons, the Olympic torch is unlit, and it won't be burning while it's on board the ISS or on the spacewalk it will go on this weekend.
The torch has been flown into space once before, on the Shuttle Atlantis in 1996 for the Atlanta Summer Olympics.
This will be the first time an Olympic torch has been taken on a spacewalk.
The opening ceremony for the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games will take place on Feb. 7.
