Father, daughter team up on KU campus radio station

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The University of Kansas campus radio station changed its usual format Tuesday afternoon as an unlikely pairing took over the KJHK-FM airwaves.

Katie Barrett, a college junior, and her father Peter Barrett of Overland Park, Kan., teamed up to broadcast four hours of music from both of their eras.

"We are playing my dad's old playlist from 1976," Katie said.

That was Peter's first on-air shift on college radio from 1976.

"I was terrified, frankly," Peter said of his inaugural broadcast.

He has since gotten more comfortable.

Though Peter never went into radio, he has spent 30 years in the broadcasting business. He now owns a production company.

Katie is a general studies major and unsure of her career path, though she is considering broadcasting.
