Thirty-two-year-old Staff Sgt. Zachary Hargrove died Thursday at a medical facility at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan. Fort Riley officials said Friday the cause of death was under investigation.

Hargrove was a wheeled vehicle mechanic assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 84th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Battalion, part of the 1st Infantry Division.

He served three combat tours in Iraq before his deployment to Afghanistan.

Hargrove joined the Army in September 1998 and was assigned to Fort Riley in August 2008. His military awards include six Army Commendation Medals, six Army Achievement Medals and the Iraq Campaign Medal with two campaign stars.
