Lawmakers in Topeka have a starting point to tackle a new school finance formula.

Their latest attempt would revert back to the old per-student formula and boost state funding by $75 million.

Some lawmakers and educators say the bill doesn’t provide enough money.

Earlier this month the state Supreme Court ruled Kansas wasn’t spending enough money on public education, specifically on at-risk students.

All six Johnson County school districts and almost every school district in Wyandotte County would receive more money under the plan.

Lawmakers who introduced the bill said it’s just a starting point and more work needs to be done.

Lawmakers must pass a new funding formula by June 30.
