FORT RILEY, Kan. - Hundreds of soldiers returned to Fort Riley Thursday night after a 9-month deployment in Afghanistan.
240 members of the 4 th Infantry Brigade Combat team arrived to a special Valentine's Day surprise. Friends and family greeted the soldiers with welcome-home signs and Valentine's day balloons.
"It makes a world of difference," said Juan Cepeba. "Especially my wife and just appreciating her a lot more. It just makes me see a whole lot."
Another group of soldiers returned home early Thursday morning. Members of the "Dragon Brigade" spent their time overseas training Afghan security forces.
Now more than half of the brigade is back at Fort Riley. The remaining soldiers are expected to come home by the end of the month.
