LAWRENCE, Kan. -- At the beginning of this month, the Lawrence community was torn when a shooting downtown took the lives of a young woman and two men.

Among those heartbroken was Clare Nderagakura.

"I was just at home thinking to myself what could I even do? And I just started writing down nice things to say to people," Nderagakura said.

She took those thoughts and printed them on these cards, starting a campaign called "For the Love of Lawrence."

With each card, you get a lollipop.

"To keep people from being rowdy or at least having a good experience even when they left," Nderagakura said.

She's goes out every Saturday night handing out the sweet messages.

Many Lawrence bar owners are embracing the campaign.

"This is something that we've needed because Lawrence has lost it's fun it's become a place that nobody really recognizes anymore so it's good to have someone stepping to make a change," Sue Mee, owner of Henry's said.
