LEAVENWORTH, Kansas - Leavenworth City Commissioner Shay Baker and the City of Leavenworth have reached an agreement related to a lawsuit. Baker filed the suit a year ago after fellow City Commissioners voted to remove her as Mayor of Leavenworth.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Kansas and Western Missouri filed the lawsuit alleging that the City of Leavenworth and four City Commissioners violated Baker’s free speech and due process rights.
In a settlement announced on Friday, the city agreed to pay Baker $2,000. Baker agreed to release the city of all claims related to the matter and forego a legislative trip to Washington, DC.
Each party will also be responsible for their own legal fees.
Baker is still a member of the Leavenworth City Commission.
