The Kansas Highway Patrol identified those killed as 19-year-old Denver J. Barr, of Savannah, Missouri, and 72-year-old Elizabeth Bertels, of Nortonville.
Investigators say a Jeep driven by Barr was northbound on U.S. 59, crossed over the center line, and struck an on-coming car driven by Bertels. Four children in Bertels’ vehicle were injured, and were rushed to hospitals in Atchison, St. Joseph, and Kansas City. Their conditions are not yet available.
