A look back at a year inside Joplin's 'mall school'

JOPLIN, Mo. - One year ago, the entire city of Joplin, Missouri - including the high school - was in ruins.

Administrators had to scramble to come up with a place for students to go to class, and they did - at a local shopping mall

The school has installed tornado shelters in case another storm hits - and teachers run regular drills to be sure that every student can be out of the school and into their shelter in a matter of minutes.

The mall school will remain in place for two more years as a permanent school is built on the site of the old Joplin High School.
