FARLEY, Mo. - Flames from a garage fire spread to two adjacent homes, but the five adults inside escaped injury early Thursday morning.
Shortly after 2 a.m., fire crews were called to a garage fire in Farley, Mo., about 35 minutes northwest of Kansas City.
It took firefighters about eight minutes to arrive on scene in the 300 block of North Street.
Fire had spread to the adjacent homes, one about 15 feet from the garage, the second about 20 feet away.
Four adults made it out of the nearest home, and one adult escaped the second home unharmed.
Several pets also escaped and have been accounted for.
Downed power lines prevented crews from getting water on the first home initially.
Officials say one home suffered an estimated 30 percent damage, the second home received significant attic damage.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
The Red Cross has been called in to assist the families.
