Missouri boy loses fingers in firecracker accident

A 10-year-old Missouri boy lost four fingers when a firecracker blew up unexpectedly.

Martinez Smith-Payne is in St. Louis Children's Hospital.

Frances Payne says she was proud that her son showed an inner strength during a time of crisis.

"He was telling me 'It's ok.' I guess he didn't know the severity of it, because he was like 'It's ok, mom...It's not as bad as it looks.' ....and i just stopped crying."

Martinez is listed in good condition. He has been receiving lots of visits from family and friends.

His mother says he'll soon undergo reconstructive surgery on his hand.
