ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Efforts continue along the Missouri River to repair damage after last year's devastating floods.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers received $31 million in disaster relief money to help repair the rocks along the river. That money is on top of the $45 million already received to fix the levees.
On Tuesday, members of congress from both Kansas and Missouri toured the repairs, traveling from St. Joseph to Atchison.
"That's where we have an opportunity here to work with the corps in a year we're not expecting a repeat of last year to put legislation in place to prevent it from ever happening again," said U.S. Rep. Lynn Jenkins (R – Kansas).
Last year, 400 of the 5,000 rock structures along the Missouri River sustained serious damage.
