Over a dozen people tried to pick up groceries Saturday morning at Patricia's Foods, but left empty handed.

"You can't just get out if you need one, two items. You either have to drive to Oak Grove, Lexington, or Higginsville. There is nothing here," said Odessa resident Angela Devall

“Their shelves here have been empty for a long time, and every so often, I would ask them 'Have they told you when they are closing?' 'No, nope we're not closing,'” said Odessa resident Bob Davis.

According to an article in The Marshall Democrat News, all six locations shut down after financial hardship.

"There are concerns about having a grocery store in our city, " said Odessa City Administrator Mickey Ary.

Ary says there are other stores in the area, but not a full-service grocery store.

He says the city is working with a broker to fill the empty space - hopefully with another grocery store.

"We are working with the broker that is managing this property and I know they have a desire to fill this property as well," said Ary.

Ary says they are looking to fill other empty store fronts with businesses as well.
