Planned Parenthood affiliates in Missouri are asking a federal judge to prevent the state from enforcing two laws that they say restrict access to abortion.

The affiliates filed a federal lawsuit Wednesday challenging requirements that abortion clinics meet standards for surgical centers and that their doctors have privileges in nearby hospitals.

Planned Parenthood affiliates in North Carolina and Alaska also filed lawsuits Wednesday against laws impacting abortion in their states.

Laura McQuade, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Great Plains, said the laws are similar to abortion restrictions in Texas that the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in June were unconstitutional and medically unnecessary.

The Missouri lawsuit asks for an injunction to prevent the state from enforcing the requirements and a judgment that both laws are unconstitutional.
