Wednesday night's Powerball drawing was the first with a jackpot winner since Oct. 3, when an anonymous Delaware winner took home a $50 million prize (cash payout of about $33 million).
The winners in Missouri and Arizona won't have the option of anonymity. Delaware is one of just five states (also Kansas, Maryland, North Dakota and Ohio) who do NOT release information on lottery winners.
Two other Missouri tickets hit the first five numbers, but not the Powerball, for $1 million payouts. Fifty-six tickets sold in 24 other states also hit the $1 million prize. Eight tickets hit the first five numbers on a Power Play for a payout of $2 million.
The biggest winners in Kansas were six tickets that hit four white balls and the Powerball for a prize of $10,000. Eight Missouri tickets hit the $10,000 prize as well.
The jackpot for the lottery -- held in 42 states, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the District of Columbia -- swelled to historic levels after it rolled over 16 times without a winner.
Tickets earlier Wednesday were selling at a rate of 130,000 a minute nationwide, the jackpot enticing many people who rarely, if ever, play the lottery.
