For first time ever, players interacted with fans during All-Star Game

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - For the first time ever, All-Star players interacted with fans via social media during the game.

Big time players including Derek Jeter, Matt Kemp, Jose Bautista and Stephen Strasburg tapped into social media once they were no longer playing, evoking 807,603 total public Twitter and Facebook comments.

By the end of the first inning, there were already more social media comments than from the entire 2011 All-Star Game.

In the 24 hours surrounding the game, Kemp picked up 6,930 new followers, R.A. Dickey gained 6,465 and Strasburg gained 4,939.

Based on data from Bluefin Labs, the player interactions sparked a 257 percent increase in All-Star Game comments across social media.
