Kansas City Royals remain in first place after finale with Cleveland Indians suspended due to rain

The Kansas City Royals will keep sole possession of first place in the AL Central entering the month of September after their series finale with the Cleveland Indians was suspended due to weather.

Cleveland had just taken a 4-2 lead in the top of the 10th with a double off the bat of Lonnie Chisenhall. The Royals had two outs, but gave Cleveland extra life when BIlly Butler had a fielding error, allowing the inning to continue.

Mike Moustakas, Erik Kratz and Alcides Escobar are due up for the Royals in the bottom of the 10th when they resume play on September 22 in Cleveland. The game will take place before a 3-game series between the teams.

The Royals take the field on Monday against the Texas Rangers, while Cleveland heads home to take on Detroit. As of now, the Royals hold a half-game lead over the Tigers and a 3.5-game lead over the Indians. The Tigers hold a half-game lead over the Seattle Mariners for the second wild card spot.
