Opening Day at the K: Royals win, Tate Stevens sings & more

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - It was standing-room only for Opening Day at Kauffman Stadium.

A lot of fans said they were not only excited about the Royals' first home game, but also hearing the national anthem performed by a Raymore man who is now country music's newest star.

Tate Stevens, a former city employee, said life has changed significantly since he won The X-Factor.

He is now an RCA recording artist.

"I'm living the dream and everything's good," he said. "Everyday I get up and do what I love, and there are not many people who are blessed to say that."

Stevens was surrounded by media when he hit the field for his practice run in his cowboy boots.

He said he has been going to Royals baseball games since he was in the third grade.

He said he and his wife will move from Raymore to Nashville when their two teenagers graduate from high school in a few years.

The Royals beat the Minnesota Twins 3-1.
