Royals, KCP&L partner for solar power

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Royals have a new feature to show off at Kauffman Stadium.

They partnered with Kansas City Power and Light to install 120 solar panels along the outfield. The Royals say, to their knowledge, it is the largest solar array in major league baseball.

The new panels will generate nearly 30 kilowatts, which is enough to power four homes a year.

The local power company says it's excited to showcase its solar project for July's All-Star Game.

"So it is very fitting, with the eyes of the world on Kansas City, on this beautiful new stadium, that we would have such a beautiful array of solar energy and we're just thrilled about this partnership," spokesman Chuck Caisley said.

More solar projects are in the works around the city a KCP&L spokesperson said.
