Royals make moves to set 40-man roster

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Royals continue to try to stock up on pitching this offseason. The team has claimed right-hander Guillermo Moscoso off waivers from Colorado.

Moscoso has pitched for the Rangers, Athletics and Rockies. He struggled last season in Colorado. The 28-year old posted a 6.12 ERA over 23 appearances with three starts. Moscoso's best season came in 2011 with Oakland. He was 8-10 that season with a 3.38 ERA over 23 games with 21 starts.

The Royals also claimed catcher Brett Hayes off waivers from the Marlins. The 28-year old appeared in 39 games in 2012. He posted a .202 average with six doubles.

Kansas City lost a pitcher in a waiver claim. The Indians picked up reliever Blake Wood off waivers. Wood is coming off of Tommy John surgery.

The Royals also reinstated pitcher Danny Duffy and Felipe Paulino from the 60-day disabled list. Catcher Manuel Pina was assigned to Omaha. Outfielder Jason Bourgeois and pitchers Tommy Hottovy and Jeremy Jeffress were designated for assignment.

The Royals 40-man roster is now full.
