Have you ever been to a Royals game and wondered how the people down on the field, get down on the field? Well, there's an app for that.
The MLB "Ballpark" app has a special section called "upgrades", and it's the only way you can purchase these particular "Royals Memories".
Once you've downloaded the app, add Kauffman Stadium, click on "upgrades" for any of the special offers.
The list includes:
- Postgame Photo Op on field - $19
This includes you and anyone else who purchased this being escorted down onto the field after the game. You'll also get a digital photo a photographer takes of you.
- On Field During Batting Practice - $199
You will be escorted into a special, roped-off section on the dirt track behind home plate. While it is not guaranteed you will meet players and get autographs, it is "highly likely" and has happened at each game so far. At the first Friday night game of the season, fans who paid for this met and got autographs from: Ned Yost, Lorenzo Cain, Luke Hochevar, Rex Hudler and KayCee the "W" guy.
- Deliver Game Ball to Pitching Mound - $149
If you pay for this experience, you will be escorted down to the field and once the guest throws out the first pitch, you will carry the actual game ball out to the pitching mound while the announcer says your name over the loud speakers. You place the ball on the rosin bag and turn and wave to your adoring fans in the stands.
There are several options for seat upgrades: first base, field, outfield, third base, shade (the "shade" upgrade makes me laugh. If you've ever been sitting in full sun at Kauffman on a hot summer day, you know how tempting this would be to buy.)
Later in the season the Royals plan to add an option for watching postgame fireworks from the field to this app as well, but a price has not been determined.
