Kansas assistant coach Danny Manning leads the candidates for University of Tulsa head coaching job

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Danny Manning, the former Kansas great and current assistant on Bill Self's staff, is the leading candidate for the University of Tulsa head coaching job.

Manning has been the force behind the development of KU's big men like unanimous All-American and player of the year candidate Thomas Robinson, Jeff Withey and the Morris twins.

Tulsa athletic director Ross Parmley said Tuesday night he has talked to Manning about the Golden Hurricane job.

Self coached Tulsa from 1997-2000, leading them to their only Elite 8 appearance.

Wednesday, Doug Hinson, KU's director of basketball operations, will be named the new head coach at Southern Illinois.
