SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Norm Stewart, the man synonymous with Missouri Tiger basketball for decades, was honored Saturday morning at the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.
A bronze statue of the former MU basketball player, baseball player and long time basketball coach was unveiled at a ceremony at the Hall's Springfield, Mo. location, along the newly renovated "Legends Walkway."
Stewart coached Mizzou from 1967 until his retirement in 1999, amassing a 634-333 record and winning 14 Big 8 titles over his 32 seasons.
Stewart was also an All-American guard for the Tigers from 1954 until 1956, ending his career ranking second all-time in team scoring. Also a collegiate baseball player, he threw a no-hitter in 1954 and was a part of that season's national championship team.
Earlier this year, Stewart was honored as a 2013 SEC Basketball Legend during the conference tournament in Nashville, Tenn. The court at Mizzou Arena in Columbia, Mo., is also named after Stewart.
