KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The futures of Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli and Head Coach Romeo Crennel continued to be a hot topic at Arrowhead Thursday morning.
Crennel addressed his future at his regular morning news conference at the Chiefs practice facility. Twitter fired up on Wednesday afternoon with rumors of Crennel and Pioli being told they have been fired.
The Chiefs head coach wanted to learn more about speculation regarding his future. Here is Crennel's exchange Thursday morning with a reporter who asked Crennel to address the speculation:
Reporter: "Coach, with the rumors yesterday that were out that the Chiefs have told you you're not coming back this year, have you talked to anyone at all about your future with the team?"
Crennel: "Tell me about the rumor, then?"
Reporter: "That you've been told you're not coming back next year."
Crennel: "Allright, is there anybody in particular that's circulating that rumor?"
Reporter: "It was just out there."
Crennel: "So you just believing rumors, or?"
Reporter: "I'm asking you about the rumor. Several national publications picked up on it and addressed it."
Crennel: "I don't deal with rumors. If you can put a name to the rumor, then that's something else. But just rumors... anybody can start a rumor. "
Reporter: "Have you talked to them about your future?
Crennel: "No, I have not. I told you my future is week-to-week. What I've been concentrating on is this Sunday's game. That's all I know about it."
41 Action News Sports Director Jack Harry talked on Wednesday night to his high level Chiefs source, who told him there is absolutely no truth in the rumors that Pioli had been relieved of his duties.
Nick Wright, a former Kansas City radio host, tweeted late Wednesday afternoon that he had a "reliable" source at Arrowhead who said Pioli and Crennel have been told they would not be back next year.
Jack's high level source told him Wednesday night that all the rumors circulating about the demise of Pioli are unfounded and untrue. Pioli has come under heavy criticism for the Chiefs' 2-12 season. Jack's source also told him a report linking Pioli to a job with the Tennessee Titans is totally false.
