KANSAS CITY, Missouri - The Chiefs again took a flier on a highly-talented player with some character concerns. The team selected linebacker Justin Houston out of Georgia with their first third-round pick.
Houston started his college career as a defensive end but moved to linebacker in their 3-4 defensive scheme. The 6'3", 270-pounder impressed at the combine. He can run a 4.6 second 40-yard dash. That speed is his primary skill. He notched 10 sacks in his junior season before leaving early for the NFL.
Early mock drafts had Houston going off the board in the first round. However, there were some concerns about his overall ability to play linebacker in the NFL and some character concerns. He was suspended for two games in 2009 for allegedly breaking Georgia's substance abuse policy. His stock plummeted just before the draft when reports surfaced that he failed a drug test at the NFL combine.
