Chiefs player arrested for suspected drunk driving

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Kansas City Chiefs player was arrested early Monday morning after an officer suspected he was driving under the influence.

Cornerback Sean Smith was driving near 10th and Grand when an officer saw him lose control after attempting to make a left turn onto 12th and Grand. Smith then lost control and struck a light post at the intersection.

Police arrested Smith, who according to a statement from police, appeared confused and mumbling.

He was charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence, driving carelessly when trying to make a left turn at the intersection and failing to slow down which resulted in hitting the light pole and having no insurance.

The Chiefs issued the following statement Tuesday afternoon:

“We are aware of the situation involving Sean Smith. Whenever one of our players is involved in an incident like this it is disappointing. We will have no further comment at this time as this is an ongoing legal matter.”

We will have more on this story as we confirm new information.
