Dick Vermeil weighs in on reports that Andy Reid is coming to coach the Chiefs

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Former Chiefs head coach Dick Vermeil says he was "ecstatic" to hear reports surface Thursday that Andy Reid is about to become the next head coach in Kansas City.

No deal has been announced, but several media outlets are reporting it's close to happening .

Reid coached the Philadelphia Eagles from 1999 until Monday, leading the team to 130 regular season victories and 10 more in the playoffs in 14 seasons.

"I think it's just a perfect fit for both parties, if it comes to fruition," Vermeil, who also coached the Eagles (1976-1982) told 41 Action Sports Anchor Frank Boal. "I'm really excited about it."

Vermeil said he thinks Kansas City would be a great environment for Reid.

"He's a great person and he's a great coach," Vermeil said.

The two-time Super Bowl-winning coach said Reid was the best coach the Eagles have ever had.

"Now he'll be the best Kansas City coach they've ever had."
