Five things to watch for from the Chiefs this training camp

With Chiefs training coming up, the 41 Action Sports team has five things for you to watch for this year.

1. Alex Smith

The Chiefs picked up Alex Smith in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers in the off-season. It was the first big move for Andy Reid's leadership of the team. Smith had previously lost his starting job after an injury in San Francisco. His play could determine the direction of the team this season. The team can only go as far as Alex Smith's arm will take them.

2. Eric Fisher

The Chiefs drafted Eric Fisher No. 1 overall in the 2013 NFL draft. He has yet to sign his contract with the team, which could lead to a delay in development. Rookies and quarterbacks report to training camp on July 22, while the rest of the team arrives on July 25. Fisher is one of several top picks who have not signed a contract.

3. Andy Reid's leadership

Clark Hunt hired Andy Reid after a dismal 2-14 season under Romeo Crennel. Reid was ousted by Philadelphia last season. Will his leadership lead to a winning team or another losing season?

4. The offensive line

Branden Albert and the Chiefs O-line will be vital to the success of the team this season. The Chiefs slapped Albert with a franchise tag and then failed to negotiate a new contract with the veteran offensive tackle. Albert missed three games last season because of back problems. The upkeep of the O-line may make or break this team.

5. Quarterback competition

Alex Smith lost his job in San Francisco. Chase Daniel left the New Orleans Saints after playing back-up to Drew Brees for four seasons. Each will push the other to be a better quarterback. Enough said?
