KANSAS CITY, Mo. - We knew the Chiefs’ schedule was going to be more difficult than last year's, but the first five weeks could define their season. It’s a brutal slate out of the gate.
The Chiefs play three of the four conference championship teams from a year ago in the first five weeks of the season.
They play four road games in a five-week stretch early in the season.
Three primetime games highlight the schedule including a Monday night game at Arrowhead against the Patriots September 29.
It’s imperative the Chiefs get a running start or they could get buried early on. The schedule does ease up after the bye week October 12.
Facing the Broncos, Patriots, 49ers and Chargers before Halloween is a tall order. The Chiefs were swept by Denver and San Diego a year ago.
They lost five of their last seven games including that embarrassing meltdown in the playoffs when Indianapolis rallied from 28 points down in the second half to beat the Chiefs 45-44.
With the NFL’s 7th toughest schedule, the Chiefs will do well to finish 8-8.
