KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Fans aren't simply surprised with the NFL over its suspension of Kansas City Chiefs star Dwayne Bowe ; they're angry.
Fans are asking why it took nearly a year for the NFL to take action, and they’re also defending one of their favorite players.
"I think there's been a little bit of surprise from fans," Joel Thorman, editor of the Chiefs blog, Arrowhead Pride , said.
He said fans are surprised because Bowe's marijuana charge from November 2013 was dropped.
"So I think a lot of fans thought that was the end of it," he said.
The majority of the 400 plus comments on Thorman's blog questioned the NFL's decision.
"A couple weeks ago, there was a player Ray Rice and he had beat up his then fiancé, and he got a two day suspension," Thorman said. "So, now you're looking at it and thinking now, is this fair, you know, is this how these things should line up?"
Fans don't think so, and they aren't afraid to voice their opinion.
One comment on Thorman's site reads:
"Seems about right, Bowe gets half of Rice's suspension for a charge that was dropped."
But not all fans are against the decision. Bob Snodgrass isn't at Bowe's defense.
"He put himself in that situation," he said.
Although the news was a blow to fans, Thorman predicts it's not going to put a damper on the season opener.
"As long as Jamaal Charles is in there, I feel like people are going to be okay."
There's one thing fans on either side seem to agree on: if Bowe has to miss any game this season, it's a good thing it's the first game against the Titans, and not the game against the Broncos.
