The Kansas City Chiefs introduced their new General Manager Brett Veach on Monday.

Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said over the course of the last month, they evaluated more than a dozen candidates around the league.

“After going through the process, it was clear that Brett Veach was the right person to be the next general manager of the Chiefs,” Hunt said. “He has a sharp football mind, a tremendous work ethic, and a keen eye for finding talent.”

Veach thanked the Hunt family, his family and friends before addressing Chiefs fans.

“To the Chiefs Kingdom, this is a very challenging profession, both mentally and emotionally. However, when you pull up to the stadium on game day, smell the barbeque in the air and see the fan interaction and that sea of red you’re quickly reminded how lucky we are to work here in this city, for this great owner, and for these great fans,” Veach said.

He also talked about his history with head coach Andy Reid, saying 10 years ago, Reid took a gamble hiring a former intern as his assistant.

“I obviously learned a lot of football from coach over the years, but as many of his current and former players will tell you, Andy teaches you more about life than the game of football,” Veach said. “So, I want to thank Andy for helping me become a better scout, but more importantly a better person.”

Hunt announced Veach as the new GM on July 10. Veach is the seventh general manager in the franchise’s history. He joined the team after spending six years with the Philadelphia Eagles, from 2007-2012.
