BLUE RIDGE, Texas - The funeral for Kasandra Perkins, who was shot and killed by Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher before he killed himself, was held in her home state of Texas on Thursday.

Our NBC affiliate in Dallas, KXAS, reported the service lasted about 90 minutes. About 200 people attended, including her 3-month-old daughter, Zoey.

Her great-uncle, Ted Downing, told KXAS that Perkins used to tease him about the many different ethnicities in their family.

"She said, 'It's time to exercise some diversity in this family, so you're Auntie Ted from now on,'" he said. "She told me that just a few months ago."

Downing described Perkins as a happy girl who loved everbody.

"She was the quintessential happy person," he said. "It's hard to not picture Kasi smiling."

Perkins is survived by her 3-month-old daughter Zoey Michelle Belcher, her mother Becky Gonzalez of Fort Worth, her father Darryl Perkins of Austin and several other family members.

Perkins' death made national headlines and shocked Kansas City. Belcher allegedly killed her at their home, then drove to the Chiefs practice facility where he shot himself in the head in the presence of his coaches and the team's general manager.

His mother is the one who found Perkins injured and barely breathing and called police. She has temporary custody of their daughter, Zoey.
