KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Red Friday sales are kicking-off in more than 170 Kansas City locations. It's all part of a celebration for the start of the Kansas City Chief's football season.
New this year, volunteers will be selling Chiefs Kingdom flags to help raise thousands of dollars for local charities, including the Ronald McDonald House. Flag sales will take place across the city, including the County Club Plaza.
The Chiefs organization is suggesting fans pitch in $4 for a flag.
This year's donation goes to the Ronald McDonald house to help the charity continue construction on a brand new 20-bedroom house for families on 25th Street and Cherry in Kansas City. Thousands of parents stay at the Ronald McDonald house while their child is being hospitalized at Children's Mercy Hospital.
In 2013, however, more than 1,000 families were turned away because Kansas City's two existing Ronald McDonald houses were full.
Construction on the new home will finish in January.
