High five history: It all started with baseball

Did you ever wonder how and when we started using the high five as a gesture to celebrate victories, large and small?

The leading origin story is this: ..."the first high five occurred between Dusty Baker and Glenn Burke of the Los Angeles Dodgers in Dodger Stadium on October 2, 1977, the last day of the regular season."

Back to National High Day, what is it anyway? There's a website dedicated to the movement: 

"National High Five Day was started in 2002 at the University of Virginia. A group of students set up shop on the main quad of the campus and gave out high-fives and lemonade.

In 2010, the founders of National High Five Day decided to direct the good-will from National High Five Day towards doing real and tangible good. They incorporated National High Five Project and were granted tax-deductible status by the IRS." MORE
