KANSAS CITY, Mo. - I've used this space over the years to rant and rave about a myriad of things involving local sports. I've been highly critical of our tightwad, out-of-town Royals owner David Glass.
On the other side of the parking lot, Clark Hunt has been called out frequently for gouging fans to park at Arrowhead Stadium.
The University of Kansas football program has been a favorite target of mine. It reached such desperate heights a couple of years ago that I suggested it be abolished.
Missouri was a major disappointment in its first year of football in the SEC.
K-State was embarrassed in its season opener against a 1-AA team.
Too much skepticism, you say. Maybe, but I think much of it is warranted.
I also think it's good time for a shout out to those very same teams that I've been critical of.
This city and our sports teams reached a monumental occurrence over the weekend. I can't remember ever a time when all of our teams, both professional and collegiate, won their games.
Royals, Chiefs, Missouri, K-State, KU and Sporting Kansas City. They all won.
Royals remain in a pennant race.
Chiefs opened their season with a win on the road for the first time since 2002.
Missouri and K-state both won non-conference games that they were expected to win.
Kansas won a football game for the first time in over a year.
Sporting KC continues to win despite the league too often putting its players on loan to play elsewhere.
For one weekend we can celebrate success for all of our teams. Hallelujah!
That's Jack's Smack.
