KANSAS CITY, Mo. - I checked with some of my colleagues in the newsroom, trying to get an idea which way folks are leaning on their Super Bowl picks. I was blown away to discover a majority are picking Denver to win.
I had this pre-conceived idea that my friends in the newsroom would view the Broncos as the enemy. Some did, but most seemed to be of the opinion that Denver really is the better team in this match-up.
I've struggled with trying to pick a winner. I'll give you my pick in just a minute..
I like to have fun with these proposition bets, what they call "prop" bets. There are hundreds of them available in Vegas. Wacky stuff like the over/under for the number of times Manning will say "Omaha" during the game. It's 27 times. I don't think so; I'll take the under.
There's a 26 percent chance that Knowshon Moreno cries during the national anthem. That's easy money folks. He will. Take that bet.
Here's another one: MVP speech after the game, who will be mentioned first? Will it be teammates or will it be God? 2/1 its teammates; 5/2, the MVP of the game will mention God first.
Bruno Mars will perform at halftime. There's a prop bet on the first song he'll do. I think it's a dead cinch: "Locked Out of Heaven." Maybe, "Treasure," or perhaps it will be "Just the Way You Are." The Vegas odds say it will be "Locked Out of Heaven."
You can even place a bet on the weather. 56 percent chance the temperatures at kickoff will be over 32.
Kickoff at 6:30 p.m. in New York, 5:30 p.m. our time. Lezak says go with over 32 degrees. I don't know about that, its' going to be nighttime in New York. This one is on our friend. On LCR or LRC, whatever he calls it.
As for the game, Denver has played the third easiest schedule in football this year. Seattle has the best defense in the game. Manning has never seen the likes of this Seahawk pass rush and secondary.
Denver will come out running the ball. Knowshon Moreno will bust one for about 25 yards. That will force Seattle to build a box up front and guess what happens: Manning goes to the air.
If Seattle gets two takeaways and they lead the league in that category, the Seahawks will win. But I don't think that will happen.
Denver: 26, Seattle: 20.
Be wise with your money and have some fun with the prop bets and good luck.
That's Jack's Smack.
