KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Only two weeks into the pre-season, and I can see where the Chiefs are headed.
It’s not going to be pretty.
You tell me where this football team is going to be better this year.
Offensive line: no.
Wide receiver, no.
Tight end, maybe.
Tamba Hali and Justin Houston better get 15-20 sacks each, or this secondary is going to get torched like no other secondary in football.
The new 'no grab' rules will be disastrous. Chiefs have one player back there that you can trust – Eric Berry. That’s it, and he's hurt.
Eric Fisher has had two straight bad games at left tackle. Fisher couldn't block Kony Ealy, Carolina's rookie draft pick from Missouri.
It's not just Fisher. Chiefs have a rookie starting on Guard.
Letting Brandon Albert, Jon Asomoah and Geoff Schwartz get away was a bad, bad mistake. The protection and blocking up front on this O-line is a major concern for the quarterback and Jamaal Charles.
Chiefs first team offense has yet to score a touchdown in three quarters. They've managed only a pair of field goals and just because it’s only pre-season, it doesn't matter.
They must do better.
The one thing I do like with this team is tight end Travis Kelce. He's looked good in both pre-season games, but he's been running with the 2's and, can he stay healthy?
Those 11 wins last season are very misleading, folks.
Remember, the Chiefs lost 6 of their last 8 games after starting the season 9-0. Four of their 5 losses were against their heated rivals: the Broncos and the Chargers.
This schedule makes it nearly impossible to have any shot at another double-digit win season. This team basically ignored free agency and did little to get better in the off season.
This is going to be a tough year.
The Chiefs will have to catch some breaks to win even half of their games. I'm starting to believe that seven wins is all you can milk out of this.
I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think so.
