There is no question in my mind – Royals fans are the most fickle fans in all of baseball. And it's not all their fault.
As we know, this team has been all over the map this season. We've seen a little bit of everything.
Quick start, sudden dive and then a team that appeared to be on the re-bound – be honest with me: You really don't have a lot of faith in these Royals, do you?
I know I don't. They're a flawed team. Without this pitching, they would probably be 15-20 games under .500 right now.
After winning 11 of 13, we all got a little skittish. We have to pinch ourselves to buy in. We want to believe but just can't do it. They've teased us too many times, for too many years.
This team has been living on the edge. Best pitching in baseball as we near the halfway mark, and they still can't break .500. As long as Dayton Moore continues to trot out guys like Chris Getz, Mike Moustakas and David Lough, the Royals are not going to win big.
You hate to belabor the point, but the top four in the order in last night's loss at Cleveland went 2-14. All three runs came on one lousy hit.
They got a little boost in confidence when George Brett signed on, but I don't care who the batting instructor is – this motley bunch has no power and has to scratch and claw for every run they get.
Same ole story, year after year after year.
That's why this team is no different than the rest of the Royals teams over the past 20-25 years. That's why you still shouldn't take the Royals seriously.
That's Jack's Smack.
