KANSAS CITY, Mo. - It was a long time coming, but we're now getting a pretty good glimpse of what the Royals were all about in the glory years.
We've seen some really good baseball in the past month. This current hot streak reminded me how spoiled we were by the Kauffman years which produced 16 winning seasons in 25 years.
Of course, the Glass era is nothing but a big, dark cloud that has produced one winning season in the last 20 years.
It's amazing, Royals fans never left-- despite the bad baseball.
Fan turnout topped 115,000 over the weekend for the Boston series.
We forget the Royals went to the playoffs seven times in a 10-year span back in the 70s and 80s. Under David Glass, they've never been.
Royals fans expected to finish, first, under Mr. Kauffman. They did it five times in 10 years.
The Royals have never finished 1st or 2nd under David Glass. Never. Oh yes, the Royals never lost 100 games in a season under Mr. Kauffman.
They lost 100 or more four times in five years under Glass. Just a snippet of how good it used to be and how bad it's been for too long.
It's terrific right now, no question. All this winning gives this franchise some badly-needed value. It would be a great time for a change in ownership.
Look, David Glass doesn't have to look very far. He knows there's a buyer in this town...and he knows who it is.
In 10 to 15 years, the stadium will have run its course and then we'll be looking for a new downtown stadium. There is no way this man will get another penny, of public money. Not in this town.
Our worst fear-- and it's a real one-- Glass will hang on as long as he can. History will show, the Royals will never be a consistent winner, as long as he's in control.
That's Jack's Smack.
