KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A few thoughts on why the Royals are a waste of our time right now and so frustrating to watch.
We try so hard to like this team. Most of the time we just turn away and look past their arrogant but childish ways.
We want to believe they're capable of competing with the big boys, but deep down do we really believe that? Why should we?
We're all gluttons for punishment, folks. This organization has been teasing us for too long. All this hype and expectation that this would be thee year.
That's all hogwash.
The Royals have been treading water for the most part this season, bouncing around a few games over .500 and a few games under .500 trying to hang on. They've missed a golden opportunity in the last two weeks to pick up ground on Detroit.
The Tigers have been in a horrible tailspin, losing 7 of their last 8.
The Houston Astros come in here and pound the Royals for 16 hits and 9 runs in the series opener.
You just cannot get ambushed like that by the Houston Astros, the worst team in baseball.
There's a tough road ahead after the Astros leave town. The Royals have 4 games each against Toronto, the Cardinals and the Yankees.
Some good news and bad news today from the ball park: The Royals think Yordano Ventura will miss only one start after he was pulled in the third inning last night with an elbow injury. But the news is not good on Kyle Zimmer, their top pitching prospect in the minor league. He was “shutdown” today because of back problems.
I don't like the looks of any of this. We're 50 games into the season and everywhere you turn there are issues with this team.
The Royals are still not hitting and now these pitching problems could push this team over the cliff.
Three of their top prospects, Hochevar, Duffy and Zimmer have developed serious problems and who knows what the future holds for Ventura.
Someone needs to be held accountable out there. Like Dayton Moore and Ned Yost. If they're not on the clock, they sure as heck should be.
That’s Jack’s Smack.
