KU trying to recover money from stolen tickets

LAWRENCE, Kansas - The University of Kansas is considering its options for recovering money it lost when at least six employees sold thousands of athletic tickets.

But the university concedes it faces several hurdles in recovering between $1 million and $3 million it lost when the employees stole more than 19,000 tickets for football and men's basketball.

Six employees have pleaded guilty in the scam, and a seventh is expected to do the same on Feb. 24. Associate athletic director Jim Marchiony says Kansas Athletics will decide its next step after the cases have gone through the legal process.

The Lawrence Journal-World reported Monday that Kansas Athletics has already filed a claim on a $250,000 insurance policy it has to protect against employee theft. It's awaiting a ruling on that claim.
